Noor (“Noor”, “we”, “us”) is an Islamic companion app for Android, published by Misbah Mushtaq & Muneeb Ur Rehman. We respect your privacy. Noor is built to be local-first: most of what you do stays on your device, and you can use the core of the app without an account. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have.
Information we collect
- Location — With your permission, we use your device location to calculate accurate prayer times and the Qibla direction. To compute prayer times, your coordinates may be sent to our prayer-times provider (Aladhan). We do not store your location on our servers; it is cached on your device. You can decline the permission and the app still works with a default/approximate location.
- Content you create — Prayer logs, Qada records, bookmarks, notes, dhikr counts, and settings are stored locally on your device. They are only sent to our servers if you create an account and turn on sync.
- Account information (optional) — If you choose to sign in, we collect your email address to send a one-time sign-in code and to sync your data across your devices.
- Usage & diagnostics — We use Google Firebase Analytics to understand how the app is used (for example, which features are opened) so we can improve it. This data is aggregated and does not identify you personally.
- Advertising — The free version shows ads through Google AdMob, which may access your device’s advertising identifier and ad-interaction data in line with Google’s policies.
- Purchases — “Remove Ads” is processed by Google Play Billing. We never see or store your payment card details; Google handles the transaction.
How we use your information
- Provide prayer times, reminders, and Qibla direction.
- Save your worship progress on your device, and sync it if you enable an account.
- Show ads in the free version, and process your “Remove Ads” purchase.
- Understand usage trends to fix problems and improve the app.
Third-party services
Noor relies on a few trusted services, each governed by its own privacy policy:
- Google Play services, Firebase, AdMob & Play Billing
- Aladhan — prayer-time calculations
- Our own sync service, used only if you create an account
Data storage, sync & security
Because Noor is local-first, your day-to-day data lives on your device and is removed if you uninstall the app or clear its data. If you enable an account, your email and synced data are stored securely on our servers and protected in transit; your session tokens are kept in your device’s secure storage.
Data retention
On-device data is kept until you delete it or remove the app. If you have an account, we keep your synced data until you ask us to delete your account. To request deletion, email misbahmushtaq75@gmail.com and we’ll remove your account data.
Your choices
- Use Noor without an account — no email or sync required.
- Grant or deny location at any time in your device settings.
- Limit ad personalization via your device’s advertising settings, or remove ads with a one-time purchase.
- Request deletion of your account data by contacting us.
Children’s privacy
Noor is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we’ll revise the “Last updated” date above and, for significant changes, provide notice in the app.
